Prison Health Services (PHS) is a rapidly growing division within the West Moreton Health, delivering primary health care services to detained, remanded and sentenced prisoners and Young Persons within the following correctional facilities:

  • Brisbane Correctional Centre (BCC);
  • Brisbane Women's Correctional Centre (BWCC);
  • Wolston Correctional Centre (WCC);
  • Borallon Training and Correctional Centre (BTCC);
  • Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre (AGCC);
  • Brisbane Youth Detention Centre (BYDC);
  • West Moreton Youth Detention Centre (WMYDC); and
  • Southern Queensland Correctional Centre (SQCC).

PHS also provides some in-reach support services to the Helena Jones Centre as an annexure of BWCC.

What we are seeking

As the Registered Nurse you will be a member of specialist multidisciplinary team providing an OST Program to prisoners within a unique correctional centre environment. This program will be delivered in accordance with the state-wide model of service for OST programs in correctional centres.

The team will be based at Wacol and required to work across all adult correctional centres within the West Moreton Health region as required.

The successful candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Contemporary clinical knowledge, qualification and/or training in the area of OST Program, delivering competent nursing care in complex situations while providing support to other team members. Clinical experience in corrections, primary health care, emergency or rural and remote health would also be highly regarded.
  • Ability to comprehensively assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care in the delivery of an OST program.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships, open communication and a positive environment within a multidisciplinary team, actively contributing to the learning and development of others to a high standard.
  • Demonstrated high standard of written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to use or learn to use information systems appropriate to the positions.
  • Ability to provide clinical education and support.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and contribution to quality improvement processes.

Importantly, more about you:

  • Committed to working an eight-hour roster pattern across seven days per week (a full-time employee would be rostered five x eight-hour shifts per week Monday to Sunday)
  • Passionate about the delivery of OST programs to vulnerable patient cohorts. Past experience, training and/or qualifications in OST (or the ability to rapidly acquire) would be very highly regarded.
