Tell me more...The midwife will work in conjunction with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioners and health workers, other caseload midwives, medical officers and allied health staff to provide a culturally appropriate high level service across the continuum of pregnancy, labour, birth and post-natal period (up to 6 weeks post birth) including health promotion and education ensuring the provision of best practice and quality client care to women and their families in the Torres Strait and Northern Peninsula Area.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Implement and monitor the organisation's quality standards, occupational health and safety policies, procedures and programs and provide clinical governance in the relevant work area.
  • To deliver direct, competent and culturally sensitive care to the women of the Torres Strait and Northern Peninsula Area using evidence based practice within the contemporary midwifery model of care.
  • Perform duties within the scope of midwifery practice and Australian Nursing and Midwifery competencies in order to provide comprehensive primary maternity care.
  • Contribute to positive patient outcomes by assessment, planning and evaluation of midwifery care in collaboration with the patient and their family.
